Are you thinking about revamping your space? Need tile ideas? Try out Vitrified tiles. Over time, vitrified tiles have made a strong foothold in the tiling industry.

There are many advantages of using vitrified tiles: durable, sturdy, strong, abrasion and stain-resistant, and have significantly less water porosity. All these qualities come with beautifully designed tiles to make your space look warm and beautiful.

If you have decided to make your room more attractive by installing vitrified floor tiles, you are on the right track. But which vitrified will suit your style the best?

Different types of vitrified tiles are available in the market, so let’s look at which is the perfect option for you.

Types Of Vitrified Tiles

The various designs, patterns, colours, and sizes make it hard to decide. It becomes a challenge when you have to choose a type too. To tackle this problem, you can select the tile according to the room and the purpose. So here, we have listed various types of vitrified floor tiles to suit your style.

1. Full-body vitrified tiles

Full-body vitrified tiles, a.k.a. whole body vitrified tiles, are one of the most popular types of vitrified tiles. You can say that these tiles consist of a single layer. You can see the colour uniformity throughout the tile, even in the cross-section areas.

During the manufacturing process, the required colour pigment is added, ensuring consistency throughout the tile. These are one of the strongest vitrified tiles.

  • Along with their uniformity and sturdiness, these tiles never fail to make an impression on the viewer.

  • Full-body vitrified tiles come in different colours, sizes, and patterns to make the space look more aesthetic.

Advantages:

  • They are scratch-resistant. It would be hard to notice even if it gets scratched due to its colour consistency throughout the tile.

  • Full-body vitrified tiles can withstand high footfalls. Hence, they are suitable for commercial areas.

  • The colour, patterns, and design are spread through the entire tile, so there are null chances for them to fade away. So you can enjoy its design and colour for a long time.

  • They have a lower water-absorption rate. Which makes it easier to clean.

Disadvantages

  • The biggest disadvantage of full-body vitrified tiles is they are available in limited designs.

  • Full-body tiles require colour printing technology, which in turn increases its price.

Where To Use Full-Body Vitrified Tiles?

Full-body vitrified tiles are sturdy enough to withstand heavy traffic. This property makes them a better option for commercial and public places. Moreover, you can install them in your home to make your living room, kitchen, patio, or any corner of the house more mesmerising.

Cost

Full-body vitrified tiles are the costliest option among all the types of vitrified tiles out there. They are even costlier than ceramic and porcelain tiles.

2. Double-Charge Vitrified Tiles (DCVT)

Here comes the most popular type of vitrified tiles. These tiles are made by infusing two different layers hence the name double-charged vitrified tiles. DCVT is also popularly known as double-loaded tiles.

These tiles consist of two distinct layers. The bottom layer consists of a tile body that strengthens the whole tile. In contrast, the upper layer is of colour and glaze layer.

During the manufacturing process, the upper layer is pressed in such a way that a double-coloured pattern is printed. For this, two types of pigments are fed to the pressing machine. The thickness of the upper layer varies from 3-4mm.

As a result, these tiles turn out 3-4 mm thicker than usual vitrified tiles, which makes them a perfect fit for heavy traffic areas. Various factors, including raw mineral composition and manufacturing technology, contribute to their strength.

These tiles are available in matte and glossy finishes.

Advantages

  • Double-charged vitrified tiles are one of the most durable vitrified tiles out there.

  • In terms of designs and shades, they have plenty of options with a guarantee that they will never fade away.

  • Double-charged vitrified tiles are stain-resistant and abrasion resistant. And they can withstand any climatic condition. These reasons made it the favourite choice of experts.

  • These tiles are easy to clean and low maintenance.

  • Double-charge vitrified tiles can maintain their shine for a longer time.

Disadvantages

  • Due to technology restrictions, more complex design patterns are unavailable.

Where To Use Double-Charged Vitrified Tiles?

You can use double-charged vitrified tiles anywhere in your home. They can be used outdoors and indoors because they have high abrasion and stain resistance. Double-charged vitrified tiles can also be used in various public and commercial places.

Cost

They are the second costliest option after full-body vitrified tiles.

Glazed Vitrified Tiles

Glazed vitrified tiles are one of the popular choices for homeowners. These tiles are similar to ceramic tiles but have better strength and durability.

The uppermost layer of glazed vitrified tiles is glazed with 1mm thickness. With the help of an inkjet printer, various designs can be imprinted on the surface digitally. So, in total there are a whole lot of design options to choose from.

The plus point of having glazed vitrified tiles is they can easily mimic any finish. From wood to rustic or bamboo to stone, you can have any finish as per your choice. These tiles are suitable for low foot-traffic areas.

Advantages

  • You can imprint any design of your choice because of the glaze layer. So, plenty of options.

  • They have anti-skid properties, which makes them perfect for bathrooms.

Disadvantages

  • Glazes and vitrified tiles are not to-go options for high-traffic areas.

  • The glaze layer can lose its finish in some years.

  • These tiles are costlier as they require digital printing technology.

Where To Use Glazed Vitrified Tiles?

These tiles can be used for areas with less foot traffic. Preferable places are the bathroom, living room, bedroom, and kitchen.

Cost

These tiles are costly but still cheaper options than other vitrified tiles.

Furthermore, glazed vitrified tiles are divided into nano-polished and salt soluble vitrified tiles.

A). Nano Polish Vitrified Tiles/ Nano Tiles

What happens when nanotechnology meets the tiles? Nothing, but we get a stronger, smoother, and more durable option.

Nano polish vitrified tiles or Nano tiles incorporate the use of nano-chemical technology.

These tiles are covered with a layer of liquid silica to fill all the nanopores of the tiles. This filling process helps in improving resistance properties and makes the tile surface glossier. Moreover, this layer even provides anti-microbial properties.

Advantages
  • These tiles are high scratch-resistant and stain-resistant.

  • Nano tiles have water-repellent properties.

  • Nano tiles have dust repellent technology.

  • These tiles are easy to clean and maintain.

Disadvantages:
  • These tiles are not suitable for high-traffic areas.

  • Nano tiles have a limited design availability.

Where To Use Nano Tiles?

Nano tiles can be used where there is low or medium traffic. Nano tiles are best suited for bathrooms, dining rooms, or kitchens.

Cost:

Nano tiles are costlier than other glazed vitrified tiles but still cheaper than full-body and double-charged vitrified tiles.

B). Soluble Salt Vitrified Tiles

Soluble salt tiles are manufactured by using colour penetrating technology. This method uses soluble salts to give specific colours and patterns.

Soluble salt vitrified tiles are liquid colour screens printed before the vitrification process.

These tiles are highly stain and abrasion-resistant. Moreover, they are the most inexpensive option compared to their various vitrified tile counterparts. These tiles can increase the beauty of the residential space. These tiles are readily available in nearby stores.

Soluble salt vitrified tiles are prone to wear and tear, so they might fade their colour in some years.

4. Polished Glazed Vitrified Tiles

The manufacturing process of polished glazed vitrified tiles is similar to that of glazed vitrified tiles. The only difference between both is that the latter is left as it is, while polished glazed vitrified tiles are coated with an additional layer to make tiles look glossier.

Polished glazed vitrified tiles or PGVT consist of three layers. The lowermost layer is the tile body. The second and third layers are of colour and glaze, respectively. These layers are then coated with polish.

A digital version of polished PGVT is also available, known as digital polished glazed vitrified tiles (DPGVT). The extra polished layer gives an elegant look to the tile.

Advantages

  • PGVT offers stain-resistant and skid-resistant properties.

  • As they are digitally imprinted, there are plenty of options available to choose from.

  • These tiles are durable.

Disadvantages

  • PGVT does not withstand high traffic.

  • The polished layer can lose its finish.

Cost

These tiles cost more than Glazed vitrified tiles as they require an additional polish layer. Plus, the cost depends on the manufacturer.
